That's what one person paid to intern at HuffPo for free this summer. Yahoo! News' Michael Calderone reports on all the other high-profile bids for a recently closed auction to support the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights.
It'll cost you $2,900 to spend two weeks interning for Vanity Fair, $42,500 for a week at Vogue, and $1,000 for a week-long gig at Esquire. Ed has nothing against raising money for a good cause, but paying large sums of money for the opportunity to work for free just feels wrong, especially given the recent controversy over unpaid internships' being illegal. Plus, auctioning off internships for charity caters to the belief that only the wealthy can succeed in this industry.

We work hard to earn internships, we network and toil to work our way up. That's the only way to get a competitive national internship though, is to excel. That's really how it should be.
